Have you ever made homemade dog treats? It is so simple and easy!
Commercial dog treats
I recently bought some peanut butter dog biscuits at the grocery store. My two dogs absolutely loved them, so much that they kept begging for more. They have never done this with other treats, so I it made me wonder what ingredients were they using to make them like crack for dogs. I read the ingredients and like so many of our processed foods, there were several ingredients that I couldn’t even pronounce. This lead me to be skeptical and wonder if there was something addictive in there to hook my dogs in order for me to keep buying them.
Only the best dog treats for my dogs
The stories you hear of dogs dying from pet food and what goes into some of the food, leaves me questioning what is in it. I would much rather feed my dogs table scraps or bites from my plate knowing exactly what I am feeding them versus the dog food. I am sure my vet friends may question my habits, but my dogs always get a clean bill of health during their check-ups if that justifies it. Afterall, dog food is supposed to be made of meat anyway, right? Organic meats and treats have to be better than regular dog food. I personally think, my two may be a little spoiled.
How about some yummy peanut butter pumpkin cinnamon treats. They smell really good while baking, too!
Recipe for dog treats
1 3/4 cup oat flour (want extra healthy? Look for gluten-free)
7 1/2 ounces (1/2 can) pumpkin puree (organic optional)
1/2 cup organic peanut butter (peanuts only, no oils or added sugars)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Preheat the over to 350 degrees Farenheit. Mix all four ingredients. Roll out like you would sugar cookies. Use extra flour or roll between two sheets of parchment paper. Try to roll consistently between 1/8″ to 1/4″ thick. Use a small cookie cutter, depending on size of the dogs and how big you want them. Bake for 15 minutes or until done.
